My husband and I want to file a divorce together. We don’t want to fight each other. We talked and agreed with everything we want. We are separated almost 2 years. We are good friends because of our 15 years old son. We want to be singles.

I got married young the first time (in Indiana) and we got divorced a year after we married. We went to the courthouse and filed for a divorce. We had no kids and we worked out who got what among ourselves and no lawyers were involved. I think it cost $15 to file for a divorce.

Be prepared for this to take between 2-6 months. Damn red tape…

for me, it was in ND. It only cost $600 cause we didn’t fight about anything. And it only took 3 days!
But this was 20 years ago.
Each state has it’s on laws. why not call your local courthouse and ask how long and the lawyers will tell you what they charge

Be prepared for at least 6 months. There is a waiting period in Michigan after you file when you have children. I am pretty sure it is 6 months. Plus you should get a lawyer even if it is the same one just to make sure everything is ok.
